The phrase “I’m OK” relates to a two-panel cartoon in which a lady seems to write “I’m OK” on a wall, but the entire message really reads “I’m Not Okay” when the viewer’s viewpoint is turned 90 degrees in the second panel. The cartoon is supposed to serve as a representation of the façade of normalcy that some who deal with depression put on for others. The structure is comparable to I’m Fine.

About two years later, when individuals began editing the second panel to modify the comic’s hidden message, the comic started to be used as an exploitable. On August 29, 2017, Instagram user luigi lover.tm published one of the first known exploitables, changing the comic to say “I’m last in Mario Kart,” which received over 4,300 likes. A variation that stated “I’m Oklahoma” was submitted by Redditor JuicedJunkie to /r/me irl on November 23 and received over 5,700 upvotes.
The revisions persisted in 2018 and 2019. I’m Already Tracer was the version that Reddit user yonosoyvictor uploaded on November 8th, 2018, earning him more than 5,900 points. User Mcnabb of /r/dankmemes uploaded a variant with the caption “I’m OK not” on May 19th, 2018, earning over 6,900 points.
