About Sad SpongeBob meme
SpongeBob SquarePants is portrayed as Sad SpongeBob / Spunchbop, who has an overly emotional expression. Early in the 2020s, the image was used ironically in parodies that used various characters in various media, as well as in short video forms on TikTok, Twitter, and YouTube.
Origin
The “Christmas Who?” SpongeBob SquarePants episode, which debuted on December 6, 2000, is where the image comes from. SpongeBob is forced to pose for a photo in front of his coral Christmas tree when Squidward dashes his aspirations for an underwater Christmas, which results in the overdone, emotional photograph (shown below).

The first instances of Sad Spunchbop may be found in a caption for a picture that has the lyrics of the 2014 Chief Keef song Faneto and the reaction “Chief Keef- “Finna go and blow New Jersey up!” / Innocent citizens in New Jersey after discovering their life is in danger.” The Dark Knight Triumphant of iFunny shared the image’s first known iteration on March 7th, 2020. Late 2020 and early 2021 saw the picture being used ironically on TikTok as a visual complement to strong sound effects like the Vine Thud/Boom and Fart + Extra Reverb.
